Weatherhaven has successfully delivered a cutting-edge Mobile Composite Repair Facility (MCRF) to the UK Ministry of Defence, enhancing frontline aviation maintenance capability. Designed as a rapidly deployable solution, the system builds upon our proven AirMax low-pressure inflatable shelter technology. This delivery represents a significant advancement in expeditionary infrastructure, enabling highly controlled repair environments in austere locations. The facility is tailored to meet the precise operational needs of deployed naval aviation units.

The MCRF is engineered to perform reliably across a wide range of demanding environmental conditions, with an operational temperature range spanning -30°C to +50°C. Designed to withstand moderate wind speeds and rainfall of up to 30 mm per day, it remains resilient in varied climates. Weighing approximately 300 kg, the shelter operates at a low internal pressure of 130 mbar. In the event of power loss, it maintains structural inflation for up to two hours, ensuring operational continuity. Rapid installation can be achieved in under 20 minutes, while pack-down takes around 30 minutes overall, requiring minimal manual intervention, with most of the process completed through controlled deflation using the inflation system.

The MCRF provides a clean, controlled internal environment essential for aviation-grade composite repairs. Continuous internal fabric walls reduce contamination risks, while smooth surfaces enable easier cleaning and maintenance. A removable groundsheet further enhances hygiene and operational efficiency, allowing quick replacement when required. This level of environmental control ensures that sensitive composite repair work can be conducted to the highest standards, even in deployed or remote settings.

A key feature of the facility is its integrated vestibule, designed to preserve the clean-room conditions inside the main workspace. This adjoining chamber allows personnel to enter and exit without compromising internal air quality or introducing contaminants. By maintaining strict environmental separation, the MCRF supports consistent repair quality and adherence to aviation safety standards. This design consideration reflects a deep understanding of operational requirements in field-based maintenance scenarios.

The MCRF’s modular configuration allows multiple units to be connected, creating an extended workspace up to 12 meters in length. End walls can be partially opened or fully removed, providing flexibility depending on operational demands. Anchor points at the base and eaves ensure structural stability, even in challenging conditions. This scalability ensures that the facility can evolve alongside mission requirements, supporting both small-scale and larger composite repair operations effectively.

The introduction of the MCRF significantly enhances the operational capability of 1710 Naval Air Squadron, specialists in aircraft structural repair and recovery. By enabling high-quality composite repairs closer to the point of need, the facility reduces downtime and improves aircraft availability. This forward-deployed capability is critical in maintaining operational readiness, particularly in demanding environments where traditional repair infrastructure is unavailable or impractical.

Weatherhaven’s delivery of the MCRF demonstrates how innovative shelter solutions can directly support modern military operations. By combining mobility, environmental control, and modular design, the system provides a practical and effective solution for frontline composite repairs. This capability ensures that critical aviation assets can be maintained and returned to service and safely, reinforcing the UK’s ability to sustain high-tempo operations wherever they are required.
