Weatherhaven successfully delivered a fully integrated 20-person exploration camp for Fortescue Metals deep within the Ecuadorian jungle; an environment defined by dense vegetation, steep terrain, and extreme humidity. With limited access and complex logistics, the project required precise planning, modular transport, and rapid deployment. From initial design through to installation, Weatherhaven provided a turnkey solution, ensuring the camp was operational, safe, and comfortable upon arrival, even in one of the most remote and challenging locations imaginable.
The camp consisted of ten Series 4 shelters configured for accommodation, dining, offices, kitchens, and essential support services. These structures are engineered for durability and performance, using rugged tensioned arch frames and high-strength, weather-resistant fabric covers. Designed for global deployment, they perform reliably in extreme climates; hot, wet, or cold, while remaining lightweight and easy to transport. Their modularity allowed the camp to be scaled and arranged efficiently across the uneven jungle terrain.

Remote jungle logistics mastered through modular, rapidly deployable camp systems
Accessing the site required coordinated logistics involving long-haul transport, off-road delivery, and manual handling in tight jungle clearings. Weatherhaven’s compact packaging and quick-connect systems enabled efficient movement and assembly despite limited infrastructure. Pre-assembled components minimized installation time, allowing the on-site team to erect and commission the camp quickly. This ensured Fortescue’s exploration team could begin operations without delay, supported by infrastructure designed specifically for mobility and rapid deployment.

Engineered shelters withstand extreme humidity, rainfall, and jungle environmental pressures
The Series 4 shelters provided a robust solution against Ecuador’s intense rainfall and humidity. Their vinyl-coated polyester covers are waterproof, rot-resistant, and mildew-resistant; critical in tropical climates. The tensioned structure eliminates sagging and prevents water pooling, while maintaining structural integrity under wind and storm conditions. Fire-retardant materials and secure anchoring systems added another layer of safety, ensuring long-term durability in a region where environmental degradation is a constant challenge.

Tropical ventilation design ensures airflow, cooling, and occupant comfort daily
The shelters’ tropical design features were key to maintaining comfort in hot, humid conditions. Cool white fabric reflects solar radiation, reducing internal heat gain, while optional thermal caps provide additional insulation. The distinctive C-shaped end vents and multiple screened window openings create continuous cross-ventilation, allowing hot air to escape and cooler air to circulate. This passive airflow system reduces reliance on mechanical cooling, keeping interiors breathable and comfortable for both living and working environments.

Fully integrated camp systems deliver power, water, safety, and functionality
Beyond shelter structures, Weatherhaven delivered a complete camp ecosystem. This included power generation and distribution, water filtration and storage, waste management, and fire protection systems. Kitchens, ablutions, showers, and office spaces were fully equipped, enabling sustained operations in isolation. Electrical systems were pre-configured for safety and ease of installation, ensuring reliable performance. The result was a self-sufficient camp that supported both daily living and operational productivity in a remote jungle setting.

Turnkey installation enables immediate operations in one of world’s harshest environments
Weatherhaven’s experienced installation team ensured the camp was fully operational upon handover. From structural assembly to system integration, every element was tested and commissioned on-site. The camp layout optimized workflow, safety, and accessibility, with defined zones for living, working, and utilities. This turnkey approach minimized risk for Fortescue Metals, delivering a ready-to-use facility capable of supporting extended exploration campaigns in one of the most logistically demanding environments on earth.
