In an extraordinary feat of logistics, engineering, and coordination, Weatherhaven completed the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed 200-bed isolation field hospital in Conakry, Guinea, in record time. From design to full installation, the project demonstrated what’s possible when expertise and urgency align. Delivered amid the global pandemic, the facility stands as a beacon of rapid, effective humanitarian response—an enduring symbol of international cooperation and technical excellence under demanding conditions.
This ambitious project was realized through remarkable collaboration between Weatherhaven and Bushtec Originals, with crucial funding from the UAE Humanitarian Aid and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The teamwork between South African manufacturing teams and on-site installation crews in Guinea allowed the hospital to go from production to full operation in mere weeks, an unparalleled achievement in emergency medical infrastructure deployment.

Innovative Field Hospital with Proven Shelter Systems
At the core of this rapid construction effort were Weatherhaven’s Series 4 arch frame shelters and corridor systems, providing a strong, flexible, and modular foundation. These proven designs allowed for quick assembly, durability in challenging climates, and seamless integration of essential utilities. The modularity of these shelters enabled the creation of a fully functional hospital environment, one capable of meeting stringent healthcare requirements while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Complete Medical Facility with Full Operational Independence
Beyond its innovative shelter systems, the field hospital functions as a self-contained, fully operational medical complex. It includes its own power generation and water distribution systems, enabling continuous operation even in remote conditions. Inside, specialized zones for sterilization, laboratories, pharmacy, reception, and administration work in tandem with the Isolation Wards and Intensive Care Units, each with HEPA-filtered clean air for infection control and patient safety.

Speed Without Compromise on Quality and Capability
Despite the unprecedented pace of production and installation, just four weeks for fabrication and three weeks for assembly, no compromises were made on quality or capability. Each component was manufactured to the highest standards, ensuring durability, hygiene, and efficiency. The installation team’s precision and dedication transformed the site into a fully equipped, ready-to-operate healthcare facility that could immediately begin serving the Guinean population at a critical time.

A Testament to International Aid and Cooperation
The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Field Hospital embodies the UAE’s steadfast commitment to global humanitarian support. Funded by UAE Humanitarian Aid and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this project provided critical healthcare infrastructure during the COVID-19 crisis. Officially inaugurated by the Guinean Prime Minister, it represents not just engineering excellence, but the power of partnership, bridging nations to deliver life-saving capability where it was needed most.

Gratitude and Legacy of a Lifesaving Achievement
During the opening ceremony, Doctor Colonel Remy Lamah, Guinea’s Minister of Health, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the government and people. He praised the UAE leadership and every partner involved for their rapid, professional execution. The field hospital remains a lasting legacy of solidarity, innovation, and compassion—proof that when urgency, expertise, and humanity converge, extraordinary results can be achieved even under the most challenging global circumstances.
