The Canadian Department of National Defence modernised its deployable infrastructure through the MSVS program, acquiring new ISO container-based mobile workspaces designed for rapid mobility and operational flexibility. These “kitted shelters” provide fully integrated medical, dental, workshop, kitchen, and command post capabilities within standardized container footprints. Engineered for transport by road, rail, sea, and air, the systems deliver immediate field functionality, reducing setup time while enhancing mission readiness across diverse operational environments.

Weatherhaven was the chosen supplier for the design, engineering, manufacture, and ongoing In-Service-Support of these ISO-based solutions. Drawing on decades of expeditionary shelter innovation, Weatherhaven used the MECC design foundation to create deliver these highly specialised deployable facilities. Each unit was precision-fabricated, CSC and Mil-Std certified, and factory-integrated with mechanical and electrical systems before delivery. This controlled manufacturing approach ensured consistent quality, minimized field assembly, and accelerated deployment timelines for Canadian Armed Forces operations.

MECC Dental Clinic Deployed

The medical and dental kitted shelters were engineered as fully functional clinical environments within ISO platforms. Integrated HVAC systems, medical-grade finishes, insulated wall assemblies, and pre-wired electrical distribution enabled rapid commissioning in the field. Equipment mounting systems were shock-rated for transport while maintaining ergonomic layouts for practitioners. By delivering turnkey clinical workspaces, Weatherhaven ensured that medical and dental teams could provide immediate care upon arrival, without the delays traditionally associated with modular field construction.

Workshop variants were configured to support maintenance and repair operations in austere environments. Reinforced flooring, integrated workbenches, tool storage systems, and distributed power outlets created robust mechanical workspaces inside transportable ISO frames. Environmental control units maintained safe working temperatures in extreme climates. These shelters were engineered to withstand repeated mobilizations, ensuring structural integrity during lifting, stacking, and cross-continent transport while maintaining full operational capability once deployed.

MECC MSVS Deployed

Field kitchen and food services containers were designed as self-contained, hygienic production environments. Stainless steel fixtures, ventilation hoods, fire suppression systems, potable water integration, and wastewater interfaces were factory-installed for immediate readiness. The ISO format allowed seamless transport on MSVS vehicles while simplifying logistical planning. By integrating utilities directly within each container, Weatherhaven reduced on-site infrastructure requirements and enabled safe, efficient meal preparation wherever forces were deployed.

Interior of MECC Training Command Post

Command post shelters were built to deliver secure, climate-controlled operational hubs. Enhanced insulation, EMI-conscious electrical layouts, communications cable management systems, and configurable workstation arrangements supported command and control functions. Containers were modified with additional access points and expandable sections where required, maximising usable interior space. The standardised ISO footprint allowed rapid positioning within tactical layouts, creating scalable headquarters configurations tailored to mission demands.

The success of the MSVS kitted shelter project reflects Weatherhaven’s integrated design-to-delivery model. From concept engineering and prototype validation through production, quality assurance, and final commissioning support, every stage was executed with precision. The result was a fleet of durable, redeployable ISO container-based workspaces that met rigorous defence standards. Delivered on schedule and built for lifecycle longevity, these shelters now provide the Canadian Armed Forces with highly mobile, mission-ready infrastructure worldwide.
