Weatherhaven successfully delivered a fully integrated, 100-person remote mining camp extension on Baffin Island, one of the most demanding operating environments in the world. This project went far beyond basic shelter, encompassing complete accommodations, food services, fitness space, utilities, and all supporting systems required to sustain a workforce in the High Arctic.

The accommodation complex was designed to house 100 personnel across five dedicated shelters, each configured to sleep 20 people. These units were engineered to provide comfortable, climate-controlled living quarters despite extreme cold, high winds, and prolonged winter darkness. The layout supported efficient movement, privacy for workers, and long-term habitability in a remote setting where reliability is critical.

Baffin Island Kitchen Shelter

In addition to accommodations, Weatherhaven supplied a fully functional kitchen and dining facility capable of supporting round-the-clock operations. A dedicated gymnasium was also installed, recognizing the importance of physical wellness and morale for personnel working in isolated Arctic environments. These facilities were seamlessly integrated into the camp layout to ensure ease of access and operational efficiency.

Baffin Island Sleeping Accommodation

Weatherhaven delivered all supporting infrastructure required to operate the camp safely and reliably. This included power generation and distribution, interior and exterior lighting, environmental controls, and the systems required to support daily operations. Each element was designed to function cohesively, ensuring consistent performance in extreme weather while minimizing downtime and maintenance demands.

At the core of the camp were Weatherhaven’s Series 4 Shelters, selected for their proven performance in Arctic and sub-Arctic conditions. These shelters provided structural resilience against severe weather while maintaining comfortable interior environments for sleeping, working, and communal activities. Their modular design also enabled efficient transport, rapid deployment, and precise configuration to meet site-specific requirements.

Baffin Island Technical Shelter

Executing a project of this scale on Baffin Island required meticulous planning, fast reaction times, and disciplined logistics. Weatherhaven’s team managed transportation, installation, and commissioning of all shelters and systems to ensure the camp was operational on schedule. The result was a turnkey solution that allowed the mining operation to focus on production, not infrastructure.

Baffin Island Office Shelter

This Baffin Island deployment highlights Weatherhaven’s ability to deliver complete, technically robust camp solutions for remote mining projects. By combining durable shelter systems with power, lighting, utilities, and life-support facilities, Weatherhaven provides mining clients with safe, efficient, and sustainable camps—no matter how extreme the environment.
